The new Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is an entry level handset, it’s a cheap touch screen Android phone. A new price point that will give consumers a greater choice. If you like it, use it. The one thing is that they make other manufacturers with custom UI’s look good for actually running them with newer Android versions on a relatively timely basis. I am also anxiously awaiting the X10. They haven’t even put the X10 up for sale in the US yet.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 cell phone has a 3-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen, 3.2 megapixel camera, A-GPS, WiFi, HSDPA support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 128MB of internal memory, 600MHz processorand, Android 1.6 with UX UI and a 2GB microSD card up to 16GB. Colors: White, Dark Blue/ White, Aqua Blue/ White, Pink/ White, or Silver/ White. The SE XPERIA X8 will be available in selected markets from Q3 under 200 Euro Retail.

The launch release of Android OS for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 is still to be determined. As the improved timing for Android 2.1 availability now coincides with the launch window for Xperia X8, we are currently discussing with our customers the most appropriate way to bring the product to market for each operator in each country.  As customer testing has already started in a number of markets it is important that we preserve the robustness of the launch whilst ensuring a compelling user experience.  Xperia X8 will either launch on Android 1.6 with a subsequent upgrade to Android 2.1 a few weeks later or will launch on Android 2.1. The final decision will be taken on a market-by-market basis.
